Hi mariek, yes it will be warm in the day but at night under the canvas the temp does drop quite s bit. Hot chocolate with Amarula instead of milk as a night time treat helps us get warm and toasty before bed :) we found sleeping in thermals helped as well but during the day it was shorts - although a warm fleece for the morning drive was essential - the mornings are chilly but you want to keep your windows open!!! We've got 4 months to go so I'm so green with your 3 week wait!!!

Wish I could braai in KTP in 3 weeks. I will be in England.

Just stay within the confines of your unit's area and in the light. Shine a torch around from time to time and you should be ok. If something does decide to visit, don't panic or run. Just go inside and shut the door and watch!

When we returned from our recent KTP trip (me, SO, son and girl) we decided to have a braai with what was left over in our fridge!

Hello all!

I'm current planning my first ever trip to KTP next year (around May-July 2013). I will also be at KNP August this year.

I am planning a few nights in the wilderness camps in KTP but as I come from a tropical country which doesn't really do barbeque, may I ask if there are hotplates in the wilderness camp kitchens? I know there is some kind of facility for boiling water but if I bring a saucepan can I just use the same facility to boil pasta, egg and sauces and etc?

I will attempt to learn how to start a braai fire with charcoal and the likes before KTP, but I just wanted to know whether I could survive without braai-ing at all at the wilderness camps. :P Are those braai starter kits available at the local supermarkets (those you can just light up, with minimal skill).

It does say on the website that visitors are to bring their own drinking water and firewood. Aside from braai, what else is the firewood used for? Do we need to use it for heating etc?

Sorry if the questions seem a little obvious, hope someone can help

Thank you very much in advance
Lavy

Hi Lavy81 and welcome

All the wilderness camps has hotplates and pots and pans.......so you'll be fine cooking your paste.

You could just make your fire and enjoy sitting outside looking at the stars without braaing.

Enjoy your trip plannng

Hi Lavy81

Welcome to the Forum and I hope we get a Trip Report when you get back from both, KNP and KTP :)

It will be cold during May, June in KTP during the nights so be sure to bring warm clothing. The days are still lovely and warm

Your other questions have been answered by Dotty and LQ

All the Wildeness Camps have a two plate gas stoves so you will have no problem cooking. The big supermarkets all have the self starting charcoal which you just put a match to start
