Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the CO2/4 and the CO2/4P cottages? The descriptions given are identical ... :wall: Does the P perhaps indicate a perimeter location?

Also, are there any camp maps of Leokwe and the Limpopo Forest Tented Camp?

Hi

Accommodation at Leokwe Camp varies from Family cottages and Single Cottages the description given to you is an indication of the choices you can make when making a booking, with regard to the Camp Maps, at this stage we don’t have the layout map of our camps in the park. We will take it upon ourselves to ensure that we make them available.

Hi Arks. I can give you info on LFTC.
What are your preferences and dislikes? Summer or winter? We’ve stayed in most of the tents.
For instance No8 is most private, but. No1 have the best birdsongs in the morning, but. No 2 have the best shade in summer, but and so forth. Most of them have very small buts  depending on your requirements.

Thanks, Cassius, but my question was specifically what is the difference between the CO2/4 and the CO2/4P cottages. The description given on the website is identical for both, but obviously, with the difference in the code, there is some sort of difference. Does the "P" perhaps indicate a perimeter location?

@giraffee: Thanks for your PM. If #8 is most private, it would likely be my choice :)

You forgot the but :D All eight tents are private and the most luxurious, well equipped (and biggest) of all of the Sanpark tents I’ve stayed in. Could be because less people visit. 8 is furthest away but you’ll have to drive to the swimming pool (after dark). The camp is not predator fenced and lion & hyena can be heard. A lion even took a siesta under tent no 6 a couple of years ago. It’s confirmed somewhere here on the forum. Also 8 had a bit of an ant problem a while back. The ants allowed us only one night’s stay in no 8. No 2 have the best shade in the joint but is right next to the pool and the pool becomes the day visitor’s area :? over weekends.

Hope Cassius answers your question.

Thanks for the further details giraffee ... but I still like the sound of #8. And am not concerned about being far from the pool as I'm unlikely to use it :) Just hope that the ant problem is resolved before April

Hi Arks,

When you plan a visit to Mapungubwe the question is more about the time of the year you going to visit than the specific unit. Avoid the dry months and rather come after the rains have fallen early in the year. After July the Limpopo dries up and you will find cattle herds crossing the dry river bed to graze in the park maybe up to Nov/Dec before the river flows again. The landscape is also very dry, while after the rains there will be more vegetation and the park will look much greener.

You can view a few TR to see the difference. We stayed at Leokwe and Vhembe camp and can recommend both. Vhembe camp is very rustic and only runs on solar power up to 8 pm. Its very private and it will only be your group there. A small rock pool can be found behind the camp, which was dry when we visited in October, but you can fill it yourself.

I think the P units at Leokwe are the ones facing the cliffs while the other are on the opposite side of the road. Both are great, but most people might prefer the unit looking towards the cliffs.

Here are pics of Vhembe camp taken in October 2011.

Thanks for the info about Vhembe, Son godin, but my "group" is only myself, plus I think that you need a 4x4 for Vhembe and IMO a 4x4 is porhibitively expensive for a solo traveler. As for the time of year, I would be visiting in mid to late April of 2012.

I'm still trying to find out the difference between the CO2/4 and CO2/4P cottages at Leokwe. :wall: Can you help me with that?

In April the river will be very full. Have a look at the TR of Vlakvarksegat on Mapungubwe taken in April.

 Apologies for missing that  (I'm juggling forum with waiting to connect with the IRS over a tax problem, been on hold for 15-20 minutes now :wall: )

Sounds like April will be a very good time for a visit!

The features of two units are exactly the same, the only differences is that the C02/4p has better view than CO2/4 and has a television.

CO2/4P

has a better view and Television

CO2/4

Has a view but not better as CO2/4P It has none

Thanks for those details, Cassius. The view appeals, the TV definitely NOT. (I really don't understand why anyone visiting a park would want to watch TV  . Being surrounded by nature provides a far better show IMO!)
