Post subject: book recommendation? and question about satara waterhole
Unread postPosted: Thu Nov 11, 2010 7:23 am
hi all

hope you are well. it was great to see some rain at the Satara watering hole yesterday!

i want to buy a xmas present for someone close to me and wondered if you have any book titles you could recommend? i really wanted to buy her Lee Berger's book 'exploring Kruger' but it seems to be out of print at the moment.

The book can be fiction or non-fiction - as long as it is specifically about the kruger. any suggestions?

also - as far as i can remember one of the guesthouses at Satara ,looks onto the waterhole shown on the webcam. does anyone know which guesthouse this is? i am staying at the Stanley guesthouse in Dec and hoping it's that one :D

thanks for the info!

cheers

Hi Whatwhat :D What a lovely idea for a gift.

Kruger books that contains the most wonderful combination of fact, entertainment, human interest are Kobie Kruger's books. She is the wife of a ranger who worked in Kruger for many years. Both her books are a delight.

I know this is not Kruger specific, but the "Elephant Whisperer" by Lawrence Anthony is an awesome piece of non-fiction, about a rogue herd of elephant that LA took on at his game reserve Tula Tula in Kwazulu-Natal. A fascintaing insight into these gentle giants! :)

Hi WW27,

about the guesthouse...it's not the one that looks on the waterhole with the cam. That waterhole is close to the restaurant. But in front of the two other guesthouses (Franklin and Stanley) there's also a (private) waterhole!
I've never stayed at one of these guesthouses but I thought it was a little more to Franklin.... :hmz:
But not quite sure. Maybe some of the other forummembers. But certeinly noit the one on the cam...

Ruud

I wouild also with Kobie Krugers books, a real delight, as for the guest cottage with a waterhole, it is definately the Franklin guest house. Many guests have seen kills right from their door step at this waterhole.

Whatwhat27, have you had a look Here for more info on books etc.

The Rudy Frankel And Stanley guest houses overlook a WH and as ruud correctly says, its not the Webcam WH but another one.
Frankel has the best view IMO.

HI Ruud is right about the waterhole. There is one slightly to the left of Stanley and right in front of Frankel. We stayed there last year and loved it - there's a feeling of great love in that house from the Stanley Family. Enjoy

Hi Whatwhat, I have bought and enjoyed each one of the books mentioned. If you have a bit of spare cash, they would look good on your bookshelf.
