This information is derived purely from conversation with guides over the years, so may conflict with info in guide books etc... but here goes:

They're not really mute as they can make noise and actively choose to make noise. However, most "communication" is done by exhaling of air through the nose.

Leopard
Serval
Are genets cats?
And the civet?
Are there black footed cats in the Kruger? :hmz:
Baby lions have faded spots as well, does that count?

Otherwise if all those questions are a no then 3.

Yep, OWN, that was the answer I was looking for. Although I accept the question was a little vague in referring to "big cats". The pitfall of the question was essentially that leopard have rosettes, and not spots.
