The Urikaruus cabins are unique in having an upstairs/downstairs configuration, with the bedroom on the upper level, with space to park your car underneath, and the kitchen and braai deck below. All four cabins are connected by a walkway that runs behind the lower-level (kitchen) units. Personally, I found this two-storey set-up frustrating as I was continually having to retrieve some item that I'd forgotten and having to climb stairs does get wearing. My feeling is that while it's a clever design idea, it's not really practical — at least not for me!

I was given cabin #4 at the far end of the camp, away from the tourism assistant's quarters, and very private. One thing I found that I did not like about this unit was that the bedroom took the full force of the afternoon sunshine, which made it very hot when I was hoping to cool down and have a nap. However, Urikaruus has the loveliest of showers, with a slatted wooden floor and an old-fashioned "sprinkler-style" showerhead, so to cool down, I kept popping myself back into the shower. I really love that slatted floor! Another minor caveat I had with cabin #4 is the large shrub smack in front of the unit which often blocked my view, particularly from the bedroom deck. I lost sight of several visitors to the waterhole — particularly a cheetah — when they moved off out of (my) view behind this large bush. On the other hand, the bush attracted lots of birds.

I'm planning to take friends from the USA to KTP next year and were thinking of staying over in Urikaruus for a night or two. can someone please help with how many people these units sleep? We will be 3 (the US couple and myself).

The units only take two adults….you will have to get 2 units ….but visiting this camp is worth every cent.

We propose spending 1 night at TR then 3 at Mata Mata then 1 (or 2) at Urikaruus before going up to Nossob for some days. Question: Checking in for Uri is at 2R but when we come from MM we don't want to go all the way to TR to check in. Can the "check in" procedure happen when we are at TR before we go to MM???

I was in the exact same situation last year. I checked in at Twee Rivieren when I entered the park and confirmed my stay at Urikaruus. You can do the same and avoid having to drive to TR and back just for checking in.

ruthp - We went from Nossob to Urikaruus, no problem, they knew we were coming - obviously also checked in at TR on day one.

Just my additional 5c - do try for two nights at Urikaruus. We only stayed one night on our trip and we thought it was too short. Also look out for the sightings books that are in the bedroom. (Made by Caracal)

Can somebody help on this, pleaaaaaase? I'm trying to book KTP for March 2010 and Urikaruus is the camp on the top of my wish list. Not only on mine as it happens... Now, we'll be entering KTP from the Namibian side via Mata-Mata. Is there any way around checking in at TR (too far to travel from where we'll be coming from) or do I simply have to give up my hope to stay in Urikaruus?!

Thanks for your help!

Hi Lionspoor,

in case you already booked your complete stay in KTP you just need to check in at Mata Mata reception and they will put your complete stay on the system. You can then travel easily from camp to camp they normally already know that you will be coming

Everything went well during our stay there

This checking in story always leads to some confusion and everybody has answered you correctly ruthp but if you have a Wildcard you will only get some of your points depending which camp you are stayiny in etc. Sorry that sounds confusing.
If you arrive at TR you will get your cashback points for nights spent at TR and Urikaruus and Kielie Krankie. If you are staying at Mata Mata and KTC you will need to have your card swiped at Mata Mata ..like wise Nossob will do the points for Nossob, Grootkolk and Garaghab and I think Bitterpan as well. Reception do not always explain this correctly...just remember to have your card swiped for every night that you are staying in the park. It all helps when you need to renew your card...I don't know when I actually last paid for a Wildcard... I always have enough cashback to renew it.

We are planning to make a booking at Urikaruus and would like to know from the regulars which cabin is best for shade..I read somewhere it was No 1 but it could have been no 4.?? Then once the booking is made I assume one just phones Twee Rivieren and ask them to allocate accordingly like one does with Kruger bookings?

Hi Sjambokpod and welcome to the forum

In December we stayed at #2 and I think it is covered by a tree on the sunny side and the view on the water hole is exceptional. Sun wise #3 and 4 might be better

I might be wrong but I was told that reservations in the parks don't do preference bookings of chalets anymore due to logistic of the occupancy of the accommodation which made perfectly sense to me Only a special request for close by or next to each other or easy acces chalets if there was a possibility. We've experienced it in Nossob that people who booked several nights accommodation in a row had to move chalets because of requests for specific chalet location. Unexeptable for us who made the reservation 10 months before arrrival just to see our nights in same chalet were given away for a last minute request. And we were not the only unlucky arrivals. Once the preference requests were lifted, everything fitted for the more night stay over people and the last minute one nighthers ...perhaps they weren't pleased with the allocation of their chalet and was it not wat they asked for, but hey you're in and camps in KTP are not big so being there is the bonus (for me it is)
Urikaruus with just 4 cabins, they all have a good view and are special in their own way
Enjoy it!
