100ponder and Aat - yah , quite interesting . Saw very few big-ones during our September trip , and certainly May was better .

Aat thanks for your always being available to ID , etc . Have great new year , and hope 2012 will even be more tuskerful

Hi all ,

First of all thanks to ALL who contributed to a great tusker year for Kruger NP.
The number of tusker-mites is still increasing and reading all the email this year, many new interested ones who are paying attention to the tuskers they did not in previous years and submitting pictures for ID. I always try to respond quick but hope you understand I am not always able to do this... I am working at least 40 hours a week and like you I have also other things to do :) :) :)

One promise ...also coming year I continue to ID and update the tusker site.

Negative news came to me this morning:
A record number of elephants have been poached/killed this year over Africa, mainly in countries as Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Congo republic, Kenya and Tanzania. Proven fact is the link to asia where all the Ivory is going to.
The way poachers kill is also changing to things like put poison into waterholes and after drinking the elephants drop dead.
Next to the big problem with rhino's this has been a dramatic change. In a reserve in Congo the population of 800 ellies has been dropped to just about 20 !!

I was shocked by the news about this and hope 2012 will be better !!

For all.... a healthy and wonderful 2012

Thank you Aat for all the hard work you have done by IDing the Elephants

I hope you have enough time next year to continue. :D

Hope they can put a stop :sniper: to all the poaching going on in Africa

A farewell to 2011 and hello 2012 :-

Mkadebona - 12:00 on 31-12-2011 - location :- Tembe waterhole as per webcam.

I wish every-one many wonderful sightings for 2012.

May this wonderful sighting of Mkadibona be an inspiration to all tuskerites to spend more time hunting those big tuskers - not only in KNP, but in all the other elephant parks of Africa.

Hi Aat,
I think you are familiar with these photos that I took during a visit to the North KNP the 1st weekend of October 2011. Mads and I went there for the weekend and she wrote to you about their “ID’s”. I see that you updated the website of Ngodzi with one my photos posted here. It is a wonderful feeling to see these giants, even if some of them are not named tuskers.

Thanks for all your hard work assisting us in the naming of these Ellies. I hope you and your Elly will have wonderful and blessed 2012 :gflower: :D

Vlakvarkvrou,
Thanks and a wondeful healthy 2012 for you and family !!
I was lucky yo see Ngodzi myself during last trip, this time close to Letaba.

First one idd is Mavatsani, to my opinion now member of a select group of bigger tuskers in kruger.
Like to add his pics to his page
The unknown is also unknown to me , think he is not yet a real tusker
If you find some minutes maybe you can send Mavatsani's pics to me ?
Then I will update Mavatsani with your and mads pics :) :)

Hi Aat;
Thanks for the reply. I will send you all the photos I took of Mavatsani tomorrow. You are welcome to use any of them.

My daughter and I also saw 2 Tuskers in the Mlondosi area during our last trip end of Nov 2011. I will post them here - to ensure that we Id'd them correctly (with your most helpful guide  )

Okie,
Thanks for the compliment. It is a lekker (nice) feeling to see these big guys and to be able to sit and watch them :D

Hi Aat,

today I also want to ad some Tusker pics of my last trip to this great thread.
I saw the first one around 5 km outside Shingwedzi on the H1-6 in the early morning of Nov 16th last year.
Daffy (another forumite) mentioned that it could be Mavatsani and I think he is right. I have only the one pic because the Ellie was very close to me and I decided to leave him alone. He was together with another Elephant who was grazing 50 meters away from him.

Image

I saw the other Tusker one day earlier in the late afternoon at the banks of Kanniedood dam. I don't know if this Elephant has a name already but for me it was a very impressive animal. When I saw him he seemed to be on his own!

Could it even be the same animal :hmz:
