Help this old toppie please!!! . I am trying to change my avatar but I do not know how. The tutorials are bit too advanced for me. The authors think that all of us have already mastered the basics like "...assume that you have already saved the picture on your computer." Now how do you save a picture? I also see that if a member asks a question.the answer comes as follows "See here" and you are then referred to another link. Now how do you computer masters do that. If an instruction booklet is available please direct me to it. Something like "The complete idiot's guide to computers". I do not want to ask these blerrie stupid questions all the time. Oh, I have also got some good old pics which I want to share with you, but how.

Windows for Dummies might be a good book?

But okay, let's start at the start.
You have photos, do you have a program with which you edit them?
Like Photoshop, Irfanview, or a program which was included with your camera on a CD?

DuQues,I think I should go to a decent bookshop and buy the book you referred me to first. I must start from scratch, from the terminology right up to the advanced workings. I recently bought a digital camera and have taken a couple of pics but I still have to try and download the stuff. So again, if you ask me whether I have got a programme to edit, you are talking Greek to me.

Thanks anyway  for trying to help me but I should start helping myself first.

That book is actually a good book, and quite humorous.

There are quite a few good programs around for free which you may want to try out.
The Gimp is like Photoshop, and totally free. It might be a little difficult to start with.
Irfanview is a very handy tool for resizing and small edits, also a free (and small) download.
The best program for photos is Adobe Lightroom, but as you'll soon find out, that's far from free...

The best you can do is ask a neighbour / colleague or familymember to help you out with the first bits, and then continue the learning process. I'll happily answer mails or posts.

I have asked my children to help me, but they become impatient. A typical session goes like this, "You click here and then open there then take the cursor there and move it there then you open this and move that to here...." and by that time I have taken out my Kruger map book and start planning the next trip.
