We used 3 camp laundries on our recent visit and we found that the operating info posted was very poor.
Berg n Dal and Lower Sabie at least told you what coins were required by washing machine and drier, but Pretoriuskop had nothing which was really poor and we had to assist some foreign visitors with how it all worked.
I feel they could at least tell you how long each machine takes and that the R2 of the tumble drier only gives 30 mins.
I did learn a trick with the tumble driers though, you can put in more than 1 coin at the start and it will keep running.

Saraf, I had the same experience at Olifants in June and was expecting the same problem at Shingwedzi. The machines there though filled up superquick so it was'nt a problem.

One of the groups camping at Shingwedzi had brought their own maid with them

Great place for a chat the laundry - at Shingwedzi there were two old Ooms there, both of them on extended stays and we had a good old chat. They had only just arrived so I filled them in on what we had seen and where which led to a few memories popping up

We will be in Kruger for a little over 3 weeks and will be in need of having to wash our dirty laundry.
During this time we will be staying at Berg en Dal, Pretoriuskop, Lower Sabie, Satara and Olifants.
Please could you tell me if any of these camps have washers and dryers.

All have laundries with washers and driers situated in the camping areas. Keep a stack of the new R5 coins to operate them.

What are the laundromats like in the main camps? Are there coin operated machines or is it to be done by hand? Should I pack the camping washing line? I am a bit green when it comes to this, so it might seem like a dumb question!

There are laundries in all the main camps in Kruger, washers and dryers.
They mostly take R5 coins, some of them the old coins and some the new!

And no, it wasn't a dumb question at all.

If the camps are full and you are unlucky, the dryers can be a bit of a trial: they take long and people can queue a bit to use them! In December we ended up with washing all over our bungalow and the aircon at full blast!
The laundry is a good place to chat though!

Oh yes and I nearly forgot, unless it has changed since, Satara laundry is apparently the exception, they charge a lot more for the machines there!

In my personal experience Satara and Skukuza can be very busy at the laundry, whereas Croc bridge there was no queue and there is also a long line to hang your cloth to dry.
Take some coffee at the lovely cafeteria while you are waiting.
Asking the cleaners to do it sounds like a good idea too. Klotzof what do you pay them, if I may ask? (I never know how much to pay or tip in SA)

Letaba does not have enough laundry facilities - about 4 washing machines for the whole camp of which only one or 2 are ever working. The same ones were out of order as when I was there 12 months ago.

I tend to bring things that dry quick and are lightweight
I have used the laundry facilities at Shingwedzi and it was fine,not crowded at all but it was april
Finding the laundry facilities in Skukuza was a bit of a challenge

I have never done laundry in the park before but I am going to have to do laundry at least once this trip, so I suppose I must take R5 and R2 coins with me.
I do not believe in tumble drying so will I be allowed to hang some washing up on our campsite in Tsendze? (I will be doing laundry at Mopani)

We also wash 'smalls' in the shower but I have used the laundry at Letaba and Shingwedzi.
At the latter I didn't have the right coin (need the old minted one not newly minted one) and did a round of the whole campground to find someone to swap with.
Eventually some guys from the petrol station helped me out

A funny story: at Letaba I took a couple of huge loads over to the laundry near the campground as the washing machines in the other one were all busy.
I ended up doing it all by hand and then put it in the dryers for a while.
3 out of the 4 of us decided to go for a short game drive.
I instructed the person left behind to collect the washing at a certain time..
When we got back she informed us that all our washing had been stolen.
Seeing that nearly all our clothes had been there I really freaked out!!
No2 son went ballistic!
Let me just go check again I said.
So off I went and lo and behold......there was all our washing still in the dryers!!
She went to the wrong laundry room despite my explicit instructions (well I thought they were clear enough).
Very relieved to find I still had clothes to wear!

Some 'mites don't need tumble drier's or washing lines, they just tie their clothing "around the driver's mirror!!!"
