For the technologically challenged (myself) it is easy to use picasa , I just save the pic I want to use on my desktop and then resize & upload .

Hi mites, whoever stole my avatar, put it back before I get nasty

Seriously though, my avatar has dropped off and I notice that a number of them have dropped off other forumites posts. Is this a general problem that can be fixed by the mods or somebody or must I try and fix the problem myself?

Its a general problem, probably to do with software upgrades being done.

You are going to have to reload your own avatar Chip, not something the mods can fix. Sorry.

But seriously, there is a little confusion between servers. There are production servers (like the one you are on now, and staging servers which contain stuff not published yet.
During the publishing all changed files are pushed to the live ones.

Now if the persons who push the files include a few that should not have been included you get overwriting of newer files with older ones. Rather unhandy, but it happens.
Then you get the problem of sorting out which is which....

And that's what's happening at the moment.
So sit back and relax, your avatar may pop back with your next post.

Same thing happened to me now as well..

Great stuff , it happened again , some of the avatars I resized with great difficulty and had previously used are now no longer accepatable - wrong size .

Can any computer wizard explain this ?

Resize to 70x70 pixels, and save as a gif, not a jpg!The code wasn't changed, so I think you forgot the latter.

How does one do that ?

Depends on the program you use, but usually File -> Save as -> choose GIF from the dropdown menu.

I see , save as GIF ... I get options of ticking boxes :

Save interlaced
Save transparent colour
Choose transparent colour during saving
Set transparency value to palette entry size (with option to enter a digit)


But I still can't upload - I resize to 70x53 (automatically gives 53) using irfanview ... message is Avatar file size must be 1Kb ...

Tested (as you can see) and no problem at all...
Maximum size is 14.65 Kb, not 1!

The options you list, just enter through them, you don't need to change a thing.
