Hi All,
Sorry can’t beat the time. But in October 2009 we saw the big 5 on 5 consecutive days before lunch. And the cherry on top was that they were all photographable. Had a field day. We will be back the July 2010

Issi, do you mean that you saw the Big 5 every single day for five consecutive days?

OK.

    - Spotted hyaena, black-backed jackal, lions, wild dogs, cheetah and leopard in that order and quick succession along the S25 one morning many years ago.

    - The cats on an Orpen night drive, about ten years ago.

    - Several elephant bulls, a large herd of buffalo, 34 spotted hyaenas (I counted carefully several times), a male lion on a blue wildebeest kill and four black rhinos simultaneously in a single sighting (Ngorongoro crater).

Heck Johan, you're competing for top honours with those! 4 black rhino and the doggie-kitty flurry of sightings on the S25    AWESOME!!

I am impressed with how lucky some Kruger visitors are from reading this thread 8) . Although we are not big five ‘hunters” we have not yet seen the big five on any of our numerous Kruger trips let alone a quickest big five sighting . Perhaps it is some kind of magic at play somehow for the lucky :D

It is just luck unless you have radio contact. On my last trip I saw 4 of them in an hour while I was looking for (and found) wil dogs.

Hey Guys,

Totally agree that the KNP is not all about the Big 5, but a great topic nevertheless!

Believe it or not my fiancée and I (we'd been engaged 2 days!) saw the Big 5 in less than 35 mins!

We can prove it with pics but I'll try and post a pic of the main reason why we were able to do it so quickly. We had the most fantastic luck with a Leopard in a tree, and at the bottom of the same tree was a Lion! We were just north of the S25 so we elected to go for the last 3 of the Big 5 ASAP! You guessed it, about 10 mins after leaving the 2 cats we found a Rhino, a buffalo quicky followed and we actually spent about 15 mins looking for an Ellie before we found a lone Bull ... 35 mins done!!!

We saw the Big 7 (wild dogs + cheetah) over two days.

Despite 4 visits to the Kruger, we have never seen a black rhino, so technically I guess we've never seen the Big 5!

Great topic for a bit of fun, but totally agree that KNP is not a zoo and I've been to the Kruger and seen zero cats and dogs over 3 days ... It's the luck of the draw and why we all keep going back!

Trying to pester my fiancée to get back to the Kruger soon!

Ps if anyone can give me 2 lines on how to post a pic, I'll post the evidence!

Excellent sighting, Flyingsailor!   We've actually seen the same close to your sighting, about three years back. Also surprised us greatly - we were enjoying a lioness in the road when I noticed her looking up into the tree behind her every now and again. We didn't even think to look for a leopard until that time.

What's fun after seeing the big 5 so quickly is that you can just relax back and enjoy everything after that without any pressure to see specific things.

Tuesday I drove from Phala to Kruger, found all of the Big5 more than once excxept Leopard, but Between 4:38, 34 Sec. pm and 4:55, 34 Sec. we saw all of the Big5, due to not posting Rhino Sightings I will refrain from mentioning the area, but the rocks the Leopard is should give an indication.

Order, Lion, White Rhino, ellie, Buff, Leopard. :D
