Balule gets my vote. I always feel something is lacking during my trip if I cannot spend at least one night camping at Balule.

Berg-en-Dal 16 – 18 Aug ‘09
Tamboti 19 Aug ‘09
Balule 20 – 23 Aug ‘09
Pretoriuskop 24 – 26 Aug ‘09

My camp choices are influenced by the rusticity (preferrably not concrete walled accomodation) and absence of noise generating apparatus such as electrically driven fridges - Tamboti , Balule and Tsendze , and of course wilderness trail camps .
KZN parks has some gems ...
Such a concept for Kruger would be the ultimate addition (instead of hotels) to suite my needs .

Pretoriuskop and Shingwedzi. Not to crowded and both have a magnificent
landscape around  I also had great sightings close to the camps

Hi

I love Shingwedzi. :D I have very fond childhood memories of this lovely camp. Best leopard sighting ever was on the way to the Kannidood Dam. The leopard was right next to the car. My SO and I are going to the Kruger from 08 - 14 November and our first stop is Shingwedzi. I can't wait to get there only 47 days to go.

Croc Bridge - my first choice. Great game viewing, S28 my favourite road.
Berg-en-dal for it's scenery. Awesome!

Thanks to SC and BB Croc Bridge now also count amongst my favourites. shhhh be quiet
Letaba is my favourite camp thanks to the restaurant's river view and atmosphere those big trees and lawns.
For game it is definately Satara, although (for me anyway) Satara lacks the atmosphere I experience at Letaba and more recently at CB.

What a question! Difficult to answer as I hold fond memories of all the camps in Kruger with a possible exception being Malelane. (And that only because of it's proximity to civilization. Also, I haven't stayed at Malelane for 'zonk' years (say about 55 years) and in those days there was no Berg-en-Dal and you had to ride the same road out of Malelane for 7 miles (work out in Km) before you could reach the Crocodile River road (S25). A road travelling West and following the Crocodile River upstream was the only alternative road around Malelane and that was approx. 16 kms long and was not a loop. This road was scrapped many years ago.
If I had to choose, I would have to agree with my son Glen79 and say Lower Sabie and Satara. :?

punda maria up in the north, great for birding and game viewing (the rarer mammals),plus no competition for a sighting !......and of course proximity of the pafuri region makes it no.1
talamati on dry winter nights  , watching all the game come to drink.
pretoriuskop, for the kids , close by for a weekend trip, they love the rock pool. Good for spotting rarer knp mammals.

Definately Pretoriuskop, it was the first camp that we were ever privileged to visit and everytime we go to the Kruger (which is once a year) we always make a point of staying for a few nights that was until we visited BALULE and TSENDZE. They are the jewels of the north. From the camping sites to the attendants to the abultions to the game viewing they are our two favourite camps in the Kruger.

I haven't had the pleasure of staying in all the camps yet (working on it) but my favourite is Shimuwini because that was my first camp and it still is the first camp we stay at each trip. The feeling of peace there on the first day as the sun sets is as close as it gets to a spiritual experience. Love it.
