I guess it is all the activity and coming and going during daytime that ensure that some of the Kruger animals keep a safe distance, for humans having a picnic at least :? :hmz:.
Although we have had a scary and exercise inducing experience in terms of sprinting to the toilets with a moody elephant bull at Mooiplaas one day
luckily the toilet facilities were nearby which quickly provided safety and we could still observe the elephant close up through the tiny toilet windows .
And we wondered why the attendants at the picnic spot all of a sudden made some noise with tins etc. -
well we soon found out they were trying to scare the elephants away :lol:.
Someone also mentioned somewhere that there was a python living in the thatched roof of Babalala picnic spot at some time but luckily :)
the people sitting beneath were unaware of the occupant

... and who has seen those photographs posted at Afsaal picnic spot where, if I remember well, the elephant looks from the one side of the narrow passage with one eye to the humans on the other side and the humans look from the other side of the narrow passage to the elephant on the other side? Someone stayed calm through all the commotion to take the :cam:

Evidently the Mooiplaas ele was less than considerate to some elderley folk who got more exercise running for the loos than they had intended.

Hey Ndloti, is that the leopard that stole the bacon off the skottel & disappeared, I wonder?

A couple of years ago we came upon a number of cars stopped in the road. When we pulled up we were told there were two Lions laying in the bushes just off the road. When we got close enough, we really had to look hard to see them, even though they were only 2 metres from the road. Around the corner 12 metres away was the Gardenia Hide which has a "you may alight from your vehicle at your own risk" sign. There were people out of their cars here, and they couldn't see all of the cars stopped a short distance away to watch the Lions sleeping in the bushes.

That experience gave us a new appreciation for "at your own Risk"!

luckily the two seemed to have very full bellies, so they apparently weren't in the mood for a bite to eat!

I am very cautious at those areas and at many will not get out at all.
When the tablets still had the sign we would never get out because of the distance, and all of the places that animals could be hiding.
At the Gardenia Hide we saw people out of their vehicles when there were two Lions laying in the bushes less than 15 metres away, just around a bend in the road.
All of the people had no idea that there were Lions nearby.
And most quickly got back in their vehicles when we mentioned the Lions.
