Sorry all .. it is a FACT! It has been proven via experiments that, because of an evolutionary ancestor of hens that had teeth, it IS possible to get them to grow their own teeth! And, it HAS already been done via mutant chickens. Apparently there are sockets in the hens' mouths that can accomodate teeth. In future, perhaps therefore expect to consult a restaurant menu that allows the option of chicken a la king, with or without teeth. :hmz:

Anyone to post the next Q is IT.

:hmz: Possible but not probable and not the norm.

The females are territorial and will not allow another female near. Furthermore the "honeymoon couple" stay together for a few days during the mating, whereafter they again live solitary.

Given the right situation the male will take another female after finishing his business with the first female. The male's territory usually overlaps with that of a number of females as male territories are larger than those of the females.

A myth.

Two facts and one myth so far; anyone else want to tip the scales one way or the other?

IB, thanks for the detailed response; "possible but not probable" is spot on.  It is a rare occurrence, but it has happened, so technically a Fact. Picnic and Heksie, you are also correct; however, Heksie answered first, so ...

Heksie is IT.

Okay, seriously, it seems that some of the elephant shrews mate for life, but not all of them. Therefore, the best answer would be a FACT.

Quote:
The elephant shrew takes its strange name from its snout, which typically is long and hangs down, much like an elephant’s trunk. Elephant shrews are native to Africa. They live in thickly forested regions and on the more open grasslands. There are 19 different species of elephant shrews, also known as sengis, throughout Africa. Elephant shrews are omnivores, eating insects such as termites, ants and beetles, as well as fruits, tubers and plant roots. The smaller elephant shrews forage for food at dusk and at dawn, but the giant elephant shrews stay active throughout the daylight hours. Monogamy is a trait rare among mammals, but the elephant shrew practices it, mating with one partner for life.

OWN that was infact a FACT
