How early in the morning? - Aardwolves are strictly nocturnal, and the location would suggest you had been travelling for a while, even though the gates now open when it is still pretty dark.
Hi Richprins...just have to disagree with you on this. Most of my Aardwolf sightings have been late afternoon and in winter in Karoo National Park. One morning sighting there as well.
Then seen them in Etosha midday oin a hot day with mother with 2 youngsters in the road!

No photos of Aardwolf in Kruger yet
How can it be that nobody has a photo of an Aardwolf sighting in Kruger as yet
Surely someone out there has come across one on a night drive and snapped a blurry pic!
Howzit, there is actually a pic on page 2 posted by Richprins that was shot in Kruger. The awesome and old Custos magazine that brings back such amazing memories. People forget that the Kruger is ever changing and what used to be common in the past can be rarer or non existent now. Aardwolf, if not resident in the park probably pass through from neighbouring properties. Fences don't stop animals always especially burrowing animals who can just go underneath.
Also if you speak to a few of the guys who have been around KNP for 30 years or more, a few of them have seen them its just that you can't always have a camera ready and even if you do they are often shy and running away or are in bad light.
I must admit im so glad not every animal is easily photographed like with the Brown Hyena sitaution (although my friend photographed one in the Sabi Sands a couple of years ago). Its great that so many animals can still hide in KNP otherwise it would really just be a glorified zoo!!
