Welcome, and beware of addiction!

All questions welcome too....we always try to answer them.....

At BnD bush braais there is a dome tent off to one side with a porta-potty. Suspect that is the sort of thing usually set up if it is not a recognised picnic site for example. The advice to take a torch is good though. The area is lit, but with candles in paper bags (the special KNP lighting system!) which does not give a huge amount of light.

Food is wonderful and plentiful......so enjoy!

Hi
We enjoyed an inforgettable Bush Braai at Satara!! Booked 5 days in advance.
They organized this great experience just for us..(family,4 adults).During the sunset-drive (5-7pm) we saw more than expected..from Lions to Genet, Civet ecc. Our Guides, Mas & Happy, showed us the African Bush in such an impressiv way.
The dinner and ambiance was better than a six-course meal in any six-star hotel! :)
The night-drive back to the camp (50 min.) showed us again more african spice..including a Leopard, but this one was really a beauty!!!
Thanks to Mas and Happy and to the whole kitchen and safety-crew!!!!!

A Bush Braai is not cheap, but it's worth a lot..and in Paradise you pay with your feeling, not with money!

After much searching I have a few questions - some for general interest and others specific for our stay - any assistance is much appreciated.

1. At the moment which camp is privileged to have enthusiastic and 'wiling to share their knowledge' guides (rangers) that go on their Bush Braai's ?
(I read that there are some truly amazing people  that are guides e.g John, Gordon, Martie, Bridgeman, and of course Patrick (don't know if he is still at LS)

2. Which camp has an amazing location for their Bush Braai?
We will be staying at Lower Sabie for 3 nights,
Olifants for three nights and
Orpen for one night.
Need to decide which of these camps we should plan a Bush Braai at? Would like it to be all three but a little too pricey to do that.

3. Which camp has the best drive, for sightings and length of drive, to and from the Bush Braai?

4. Can we take our own bottle of wine or a few beers to the Bush Braai?

Hi Warmsunshine! Welcome and thanks for posting here! I actually haven't heard too much abolut bush braais before - always thought it was this group activity that had to be booked for a specific larger group of people. But looking around - it seems individuals or couples can join others, as on any game drive activity, and enjoy a bush braai that is scheduled.

It sounds like a nice thing to do. But I have a few questions - maybe some of the fellow forumites can help out?

1. What time do you usually depart, and return to camp?
2. What are the costs involved?
3. How often and at which camps do they have this?

More specifically - we are possibly planning a short weekend trip next month to Berg en Dal. Anybody knows if they have it and how it is?

Hi Bushbuddies

We did the bush braai at Berg en Dal in December 2010. You leave at normal game drive time Have a shortened game drive and then the bush braai . Ecojunkie did the drive for us, you can't ask for more . The food was lovely .
It is quite expensive but I can't really remenber the price.

Nkulu - Thank you for the 'sunny' welcome. My confidence is already rising with your positive comments and I am sure you are in fact one of 'the lovely people' :) I have yet to meet in the Kruger.

And Flutterby - even as I got older I still could not understand why it was actually B-utterfly. Flutterby still sounds better and makes more sense! :) Thanks for the encouragement and the welcome.

Bushbuddies - Thanks for your welcome too. I the Forum Members have indeed stepped up to the plate (as usual) with some good info already - thanks all.

When I was searching this topic I was looking under 'KNP Camps & Roads' because in my mind the Bush Braai is a camp arrangement. Well thanks to Dotty who has added a link to 'Kruger National Park' which has lead to many threads on Bush Braais.
Sorry to the moderators and old timers that knew the info was there and here was yet another newbie not doing proper research before posting a new topic  .

Thanks Dotty you're a star. That was quite an outing you had 5 hours in the African bush - what a pleasure and I'm sure worth every penny. Only R325pp, I gather you were at Pretoriuskop and Pat was your guide and driver?

Bomsevrou  R480 pp  .

Does anyone know how much it costs at Olifants?

R325 at Pretoriuskop to R480 at Skukuza - huge difference!?

Thanks again for the input.

Warmsunshine, the best way to find out is to contact the camp regarding availability for the bush braai and also the price. As you see the price does vary from camp to camp. Don't know why though... :)

We will be in Kruger this October for 3 weeks and will be staying at Berg n Dal (1 night), Olifants, Satara, Lower Sabie and Pretoriuskop. We were wondering which of these camps operates the best evening bush braai? Your advice will be gratefully accepted.

We contacted Skukuza camp and was able to obtain an email address from them. We are a party of 6 and had no problem booking the bush braai. The cost quoted to us is R420 per person.

Jhawktx, the best I can advise is to contact the camp as the person who we emailed gave a different address as the one on the website. It might just be that your email has not been received yet. Good luck!
